General Questions

Libra is an AI workspace designed specifically for legal professionals. It combines conversational AI, document analysis, and research capabilities in a platform built to meet the security and compliance requirements of legal work.
At the core of Libra is Libra AI, our proprietary technology layer. Rather than relying on a single model, Libra AI combines the strengths of leading large language models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and other providers. Our AI Agents analyze and refine each query before routing it to the most suitable model—often through multiple passes to maximize accuracy and usefulness. This ensures that the optimal model is used for each task without you needing to understand the underlying technology.
Libra draws from multiple sources depending on your query:
  • Large language models trained on public internet data
  • Legal databases including Wolters Kluwer and Dr. Otto Schmidt (in Germany), and local Wolters Kluwer databases in other jurisdictions
  • Commercial register data (Handelsregister)
  • Court decisions from online databases (dejure.org and openjur.de)
  • Documents you upload (when included in your query)
  • Web search results via Google (when Research Mode is enabled)
For integrated web search, Libra uses Google’s search technology along with content from relevant, publicly accessible sources.
Our roadmap focuses on expanding functionality, integrations, and jurisdictional coverage. Key areas include:
  • New integrations: Outlook Add-in, connections to practice management systems (STP.one, Lecare, RA-Micro, Datev, SharePoint, iManage)
  • Customization: Firm-specific templates, prompts, and knowledge bases
  • Enhanced automation: More sophisticated multi-step workflows and agentic capabilities

Trial Period

No. Your free trial account expires automatically at the end of the trial period. No cancellation is required, and you will not incur any costs or obligations.
No. Your trial account will not be automatically converted into a paid subscription. At the end of the trial period, your access simply ends. If you wish to continue using Libra, you can choose a subscription plan at any time.
Yes. All security measures, data protection practices, and compliance standards apply equally to trial accounts. Your data is encrypted, stored on servers in Germany, and handled according to the same GDPR-compliant processes as paid accounts. The same data processing terms in our General Terms and Conditions apply regardless of account type.
Project sharing is an Enterprise feature. During the trial period, you have access to individual features by default. If you’d like to test team collaboration features, contact sales@libratech.ai to enable Enterprise features for your trial.

Security and Data Protection

All user data, including chat histories and uploaded documents, is stored in encrypted form on servers in Germany. When generating responses, inputs (prompts and relevant sections of referenced documents) are transmitted to large language model providers. These providers’ servers are located exclusively within Europe—for example, OpenAI models are hosted via Microsoft Azure’s European service. All user data remains within the European Economic Area (EEA). No data is transferred to the United States.
All data is encrypted both during transmission (using TLS/HTTPS) and at rest (using XTS AES 256-bit encryption). This ensures your information is protected at all times.
Unencrypted access to user data is restricted to Libra employees who need it to fulfill contractual obligations in accordance with German professional regulations. Third parties do not have unencrypted access. Documents can only be shared with other users within the same organization in Libra.
No. Data entered or uploaded to Libra is processed exclusively for generating responses and is not stored on AI provider servers. User data is never used for training or fine-tuning AI models. This is explicitly regulated in our General Terms and Conditions.

Compliance

Yes. Libra meets the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Our data processing agreement (DPA) is integrated into our General Terms and Conditions, and all third-party providers we work with are also GDPR-compliant.
Yes. Libra is ISO 27001 certified, confirming that we have implemented an effective information security management system (ISMS). All third-party providers we work with are also ISO 27001 certified. Our certificate is available on our Security page.

Documents & Uploads

Libra supports a wide variety of common file formats, including documents (PDF, Word, text files), spreadsheets, presentations, images, and audio files (MP3, M4A). For best results with PDFs, use text-based PDFs rather than scanned images. If you need to process scanned documents, contact support for OCR options.
Individual files can be up to 500 MB or 2,000 pages, whichever limit is reached first.
You can upload up to 1,000 documents per project. For direct use in Chat, a maximum of 25 documents can be processed simultaneously. This is a technical limitation as AI models currently have difficulty optimally processing more than 25 documents at once while maintaining quality. For larger document sets, use Discovery for batch analysis. Discovery supports up to 100,001 cells.
You have several options:
  • Select individual documents: Hold Cmd (Mac) or Ctrl (Windows) and click on each document
  • Select consecutive documents: Hold Shift and click the first and last document in the range
  • Select all documents in a folder: Click directly on the folder to select all documents inside
Use Discovery to analyze multiple documents with the same questions. Upload your documents, define columns for the information you want to extract, and Libra will create a comparison table. See Discovery Basics.
Yes. Go to your Document Library, select the document, and click Delete. Documents attached only to a specific chat are deleted when you delete that chat.

Using Libra

Yes. Libra is designed to handle confidential legal work. Our security measures, compliance certifications, and data handling practices are built to support the confidentiality requirements of legal practice.
Yes. While Libra provides high-quality analysis and information, you should always verify important findings, especially for critical work. AI can occasionally make mistakes, and professional judgment remains essential.
Libra uses your uploaded documents as input for generating responses. If a document or website contains misleading instructions designed to influence the AI’s response, results may be affected. In security literature, this is sometimes called “prompt injection”—content that attempts to steer an AI system’s response. We recommend using documents from trusted sources only and reviewing results carefully when working with external materials.
Yes. You can share chats, assistants, and projects with colleagues in your organization. Sharing with people outside your organization is restricted to maintain security.
Use the Word Add-in when you’re drafting or editing documents directly in Word and want AI assistance without switching applications. It’s ideal for real-time text revision, placeholder filling, and making changes with Track Changes enabled.Use the Libra app when you need comprehensive document analysis, want to work with multiple documents at once, need research capabilities, or want to set up automated workflows.
Workflows let you chain multiple AI assistants together to automate complete processes. Instead of running each step manually, you create a sequence of assistants that pass their output to the next. For example: Document analysis → Risk assessment → Summary report. See Creating a Workflow.

Research & Citations

Wolters Kluwer content is included free during the 14-day trial period. After the trial, Wolters Kluwer access must be purchased separately. See Wolters Kluwer for details.
All Libra subscriptions with German legal research include the Aktionsmodul Zivilrecht: Zöller (ZPO), Erman (BGB), Vorwerk (Prozessformularbuch), and MDR journal. Additional modules like DER BETRIEB, ZIP, or VersR require separate access. See Otto Schmidt for details.
For best results: (1) Enable Research Mode and select only 1-2 relevant databases—more modules do not improve accuracy, (2) Specify the jurisdiction (e.g., “under German law”), (3) Include relevant statutory references if known, and (4) Do not add instructions like “verify your sources”—this can confuse the AI and reduce quality.
Libra can connect to SharePoint for document access, with OneDrive and iManage integrations coming soon. For specialized internal databases, contact sales@libratech.ai to discuss integration options.

Chat & History

Use the search bar at the top of the sidebar to search through your chat history. You can search by keywords from your questions or Libra’s responses. Chats are also listed in reverse chronological order in the sidebar, so recent conversations appear at the top.
Yes. Use Projects to organize related chats together. You can move existing chats into projects or start new chats directly within a project. See Projects for details.
Yes. Click on the chat title at the top of the conversation to rename it. Meaningful names make chats easier to find later.
In the sidebar, hover over the chat you want to delete and click the three-dot menu. Select Delete to remove it. Deleted chats are removed after 30 days and cannot be recovered.

Troubleshooting

Something not working as expected? These common issues usually have quick fixes.
Try these steps: (1) Refresh the page, (2) Clear your browser cache, (3) Try a different browser (Chrome recommended), (4) Check your internet connection. If the problem persists, check our status page or contact support@libratech.ai.
Ensure you have Microsoft 365 or Office 2019+. Try removing and reinstalling the add-in. Note that the Outlook Add-in only works when replying to emails, not when composing new ones. See Word Add-in Setup or Outlook Add-in Setup.
When exporting to Word, some complex formatting may not transfer perfectly. Try exporting as PDF for exact formatting, or edit the Word export as needed. For specific formatting requirements, use the Word Add-in to work directly in your document.
Check that: (1) You are in the same organization, (2) The content was explicitly shared with you or your team, (3) You have the correct permissions. If issues persist, ask your organization admin or contact support.

Technical Requirements

Libra works best with the following browsers:
  • Google Chrome (recommended)
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Safari
