FedLex (fedlex.admin.ch) is the official federal-law portal of the Swiss Confederation, run by the Federal Chancellery (Bundeskanzlei). It’s the authoritative source for in-force Swiss federal law, and free.

FedLex returns the latest in-force version. For a historical one, name the date, “Art. 717 OR as of 1 Jan 2024”, and the link anchors to that point.

What it covers

CollectionWhat it is
Classified Compilation (SR / RS)Consolidated, in-force federal law and international treaties: ~17,000 acts.
Official Compilation (AS / RO)Chronological federal legislation as enacted.
Federal Gazette (BBl / FF)Drafts, dispatches, parliamentary materials.
Version historyPoint-in-time access to every act.
Languages supported: German, French, Italian: the three official Swiss languages. Selected texts also have English translations (non-binding). Romansh is not supported. If you ask in French, Libra answers from the French version. Falls back to German when the requested language isn’t available for that specific law.

Practice areas

All Swiss federal law: civil (ZGB, OR), criminal (StGB), administrative, tax, social insurance, financial market regulation, public procurement, etc.
FedLex is federal only. Cantonal laws aren’t in FedLex; for cantonal matters, you’ll need cantonal sources outside Libra.

What you can ask

  • “What does the Swiss Code of Obligations say about rental termination notice periods?”
  • “Under ZGB, what are the requirements for guardianship?”
  • “Quote Article 6 OR in the French version.”
  • “Welche Pflichten ergeben sich aus Art. 717 OR für VR-Mitglieder?”

Setup

None. FedLex is Included with every Libra subscription.

Tips

For matters where the relevant version is historical, click through to fedlex.admin.ch and pick the right point-in-time text manually.
Citations carry the language version. If you need the French text of an article, ask in French or specify “give the French text”.
Statute + cases is the default Swiss research pattern. Both are Included, so it costs nothing to enable them together.
